Hello Internet
Hello.

My name is Amanda. I live in Tallahassee, Florida in the United States.

Sometimes I draw things. Sometimes I post things that are not as funny as I thought they were. Mostly I just reblog Carl Sagan related gibberish. Also, banjos are cool.

Prepare for randomness and geekery.

Not at all! These days I tend to alternate between a Palomino Blackwing (either the standard or the 602 model. I prefer the 602 generally, but the standard model does make a lovely dark smooth line), and a Mitsubishi Leadholder with HB lead.
It seems I’m a bit heavy handed when it comes to drawing so, I usually wear down the sharpened tips a bit on a piece of scrap paper so that I don’t scratch holes in my sketchbooks. I like making thick lines when cross-hatching to, in a way, emulate J. C. Leyendecker’s thick confident strokes in his paintings. Obviously, there is no comparison between his work and my scribbles. Putting down thick lines is just really satisfying for some reason! :3

For those interested, process on my last painting! Everything for this painting, from the initial thumbnails to the final sketch to the color key to the final painting, was done entirely digitally in Photoshop CS3 using a Wacom Cintiq. It should be noted that there were a lot more “initial thumbnails” but I chose to only show the more coherent designs. This is more the thought process behind the painting, and not so much a “how-to” of actual painting technique. Truth is, once I have the lines and a color key, it’s really just a matter of blocking in the big shapes and then adding detail until it looks right. Enjoy! (Click for larger.)
